Best Squash Accessories | Buying Guide : Things to consider while buying a Squash Accessories

Below we will take a look at different factors to choose the Squash Accessories

Squash Ball

Squash balls come in different sizes and different colours and for a reason – they’re all aimed at helping you choose the right ball to suit your level of play and fitness and ultimately, help you become a better player.

Unlike in other ball sports such as tennis, where there is no discernible difference from the ball used by a beginner of one used by Roger Federer, in squash the different coloured balls (whether totally different in colour or just using different coloured dots) are designed to bounce differently and behave differently in certain conditions.

Single Blue Dot

This is also known as a “progress” ball. It has the highest bounce out of the box. Use these if you’re 2 new squash players. You’ll be able to have longer rallies, since it will consistently have a higher bounce.

The drawbacks: the ball is so bouncy that it will bounce far off the back & side walls, which can create traffic issues between players. Also, drop shots are next to impossible with these balls, since they bounce so much.

Single Yellow Dot

This is an intermediate ball, with slightly less bounce than a single blue dot. Use these if you’ve learned to hit the ball harder & achieve longer rallies.

Double Yellow Dot

This is a professional level ball used by the pros, but also used most frequently by regular club-level players. It has the least bounce, and requires some good hard hitting to get it warm. Good drop shots and good length are rewarded with Double Yellow dot balls, since it dies more in the corners.

Squash Racket String

The strings you should buy depend on how much you play and what you prefer. The best performance strings are Ashaway and Tecnifibre, but these are also the most expensive and are typically less durable than cheaper options.

Unless you are playing to a high level, or are not bothered by the extra cost, it is probably better to go for the mid-range options, which are typically labelled as ‘synthetic gut’ and similar names. Most stores and stringers have their own preferred, mid-price string that they use.

The tighter your strings, the easier it is to get control and the looser your strings, the easier it is to get power. Of course, any accomplished player should be able to achieve both power and control with any reasonable string tension! It mostly comes down to preference in the end. You also might find as you become more experienced, that a higher tension suits a racket more than a lower one or vice versa.

Squash strings only come in 17 or 18 gauges. If yours is different to this, you may have been given strings intended for racketball, or tennis if they are around 15, and badminton if they are around 20 gauge.

Squash Racket Grip

Unlike tennis racquets for which grip size is critically important, squash racquets are not manufactured with different grip sizes. That is to say while there are differences between adult, junior and children’s squash racquets, one cannot purchase an adult racquet with a particular grip size.

Instead, squash players all start with the same grip size and then build their racquet handles up to the size they want by using a combination of grip and overgrip.

Many players are satisfied with a single grip. Some, with larger hands, will add an additional layer or two of overgrip while players with extremely large hands will often begin with two layers of grip followed by one or more layers of overgrip.

Only the highest quality squash racquets come outfitted with proper grip when you bring them home from the store. Most racquets, in fact, come with a very thin rubber wrapping that looks like grip. This is not a grip and should be replaced immediately. Even good quality racquets will usually require the installation of grip and string before you can play squash with them.

Squash Bag

We know how important it is for racket sport players to get the right bag, whether you’re a bit of a weekend warrior or you play more regularly and more seriously. Having the right bag for you will help you feel prepared to step out onto the courts.

Whether you just take one racquet and a few balls or shuttles with you, or you need the space for multiple rackets, clothes, towels, footwear, nutrition, grips and any other accessories, this handy guide will ensure you find the bag most suitable to your needs, letting you take all the gear you need and offering comfortable carrying and practical storage.

In general, all racket bags are suitable for tennis, squash and badminton equipment so whichever sport you’re into this guide and the links to the product pages are applicable.

Squash Goggles

It’s fitting

Several keynote brands add something like a nylon band to the goggles that makes a comfortable fit. But the goggles also need to be in a good position, so they do not fall off. Since no player has the exact face structure as another player, the goggles come with an adjustable nose bridge. How comfortable you are in your goggles largely depends on the fitting. No one enjoys using goggles that keep falling off. Make sure to look out for this when you want to buy your squash goggles.

Ventilation

This is a significant factor to consider when getting your goggles. Goggles that are not well ventilated can be very frustrating to use. You have vents located at the top of the goggles. Though small, they still ensure that you are as comfortable as possible. How tight the goggles are can determine how ventilated it will be. But this is left to the buyer to decide. You are to get the one that suits you best. Accumulation of fog is something to look out for as it is distracting and annoying. You are to make sure the vents above the lens are okay so it can prevent fogs.

Durability

How long the goggles are going is also something to consider when you want to choose. It is possible to get hits from the squash ball, so make sure to get a goggle that can take the shots well and not break or hurt you in the process. The nylon band is part of what ensures it is comfortable and durable. Good goggles have lenses made with polycarbonate plastic, and the material has been proven to be long-lasting. They rarely shatter or break.

Style and Weight

Style is what makes goggles too. You can check for stylish glasses that can be used somewhere else asides the squash court. If you are lucky enough to find interchangeable lenses, that’s just great. The Weight of the goggles is also significant to your comfort. Big glasses are not advisable because they are not so comfortable. The importance of the goggles are usually indicated, and so you can check before buying.
